Spirit Airlines shut down after years of financial trouble and failed recovery plans. The airline officially stopped operations in May 2026. It struggled with heavy debt, rising fuel costs, and weak profitability. A last-minute bailout effort from the U.S. government did not go through. Once that deal collapsed, the company decided to cease all flights immediately. All operations were grounded and ticket sales were stopped. It basically ended a 34-year run in budget air travel.
