
Most types of hantavirus do not spread from person to person. The main way people get infected is through contact with contaminated rodent waste. However, a few rare strains in certain regions have shown limited human-to-human transmission. These cases are uncommon and usually involve close contact. For the majority of hantavirus infections, you don’t need to worry about catching it from someone else. Standard hygiene practices are still recommended. Overall, rodent exposure remains the primary source of infection.
