John Ternus studied mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1997. During college, he was also a competitive swimmer, showing both academic and athletic skills. He started his career working as an engineer before joining Apple in 2001. At Apple, he began on the product design team and worked his way up over the years. His engineering background helped him lead complex hardware projects. He has been involved in designing many important Apple products.
