Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago in 1955 and grew up in a working- and middle-class family. His parents were both involved in education, which influenced his early interest in learning and discipline. As a young person, he was known for being thoughtful and community-focused. He studied mathematics at Villanova University before entering religious life. During his student years, he even worked part-time jobs like maintaining cemetery grounds. He was also interested in languages and theology from a young age. These early experiences helped shape his path toward becoming a priest and eventually pope.
