Before becoming pope, Leo XIV had a long and varied career in the Catholic Church. He worked as a missionary in Peru for many years, helping local communities and training future priests. Later, he became a bishop and took on leadership roles within the Church. He also served as the head of the Augustinian religious order for over a decade. In 2023, he was made a cardinal and given important responsibilities in the Vatican. One of his key roles was helping choose and oversee bishops around the world. All of this experience prepared him for the responsibilities of becoming pope.
