Both projects aim to improve global connectivity through infrastructure and trade routes. However, IMEC focuses on partnerships between democratic and Western-aligned countries. It also promotes transparency and sustainable development as key goals. Some countries see it as a way to diversify trade routes instead of relying heavily on China-led networks. At the same time, others say it’s not a direct competitor but more of a complementary option. Still, the comparison with BRI is one of the most common discussions around IMEC.
