
Hirohito was born into Japan’s imperial family in Tokyo in 1901. He was the son of Emperor Taishō and the grandson of Emperor Meiji. This made him part of one of the oldest hereditary monarchies in the world. From a young age, he was trained to become emperor and follow strict traditions. He was educated at elite institutions designed for royal family members. His upbringing was very different from that of ordinary people in Japan. This background shaped his sense of duty and role as a national symbol.
